What Is the Difference Between Our Level 5 TEFL Diploma and CELTA?

Both the TEFL Fullcircle Level 5 Diploma and CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) are qualifications at Level 5 on the UK qualifications framework.

The main difference is how you study and are assessed.

Our Level 5 TEFL Diploma offers flexible, 100% online learning, allowing you to study at your own pace. Assessment is coursework-based, making it an accessible option for those balancing study with work or other commitments.

CELTA, awarded by Cambridge English, combines theoretical learning with practical teaching experience, including six hours of assessed teaching practice with real learners.

Both qualifications can help prepare you for a career teaching English, although individual employers may have different preferences and requirements.

Which should you choose? If you want a flexible, affordable and regulated qualification, our Level 5 TEFL Diploma is an excellent option. If you prefer supervised classroom teaching practice as part of your initial training, CELTA may be more suitable.

Want observed teaching practice too? Add the 25-Hour Online Teaching Practicum (£249.99$329.99).
