My life — TEFL Fullcircle

Hi, I'm James Gillmon. In 2015, I founded TEFL Fullcircle with a simple belief: teaching English can change your life — not just because it gives you a job, but because of everything it allows you to do when you're not teaching.

Over the past twenty years, teaching took me from tropical beaches in Thailand to the mountains of Vietnam and the energy of Tokyo. But the greatest gift it gave me was my family — meeting my wife in Thailand and building a life filled with adventure.

I started with a laptop, no investors, and a determination to help others create lives they were proud of. Today, TEFL Fullcircle has supported more than 70,000 learners from over 150 countries.

Straight answers, no small print.

Both sit at Level 5 on the UK Regulated Qualifications Framework, so they are the same regulated level. They are not identical. CELTA includes six hours of assessed teaching with real students; our Level 5 Diploma is studied online and assessed on written coursework. Our 25-Hour Online Teaching Practicum adds observed, graded teaching practice to close that gap. For online teaching and most schools abroad, a Level 5 Diploma meets the requirement. For competitive university or British Council roles, CELTA plus classroom experience still carries more weight. See the full side-by-side comparison.

Our 200-Hour Level 5 Diploma is awarded by Gatehouse Awards, an Awarding Organisation recognised by Ofqual — the UK Government's qualifications regulator. We've been an Ofqual-regulated training provider since 2024, and the Diploma sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework where any employer can verify it. Our 120, 160, 200 and 40-hour courses are internationally accredited but not regulated qualifications — and we say so on every course page. More on our accreditation.

Most learners are qualified and ready to start earning in about four to six weeks. The 120-hour course typically takes four weeks at around ten hours a week; the 200-Hour Level 5 Diploma takes six to eight weeks. Everything is 100% self-paced. More on study time.

Anyone over 18 can take our courses, and there's no upper age limit — we have gap-year students, career changers and retired learners. Some countries apply work-visa age limits of around 55–60, including China, South Korea and Japan; online teaching and most of Europe and Latin America have no age cap at all.
